Greetings!

Guided by Pope John Paul II's call to pray for peace and to say "no to war", please join me in praying to the Prince of Peace for peace in our world.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer for World Peace

by Sister Joan D. Chittister, O.S.B.

Great God, who has told us
"Vengeance is mine,"
save us from ourselves,
save us from vengeance in our hearts
and the acid in our souls.
Save us from our desire to hurt as we have been hurt,
to punish as we have been punished,
to terrorize as we have been terrorized.
Give us the strength it takes
to listen rather than to judge,
to trust rather than to fear,
to try again and again
to make peace even when peace eludes us.
We ask, O God, for the grace
to be our best selves.
We ask for the vision
to be builders of the human community
rather than its destroyers.
We ask for the humility as a people
to understand the fears and hopes of other peoples.
We ask for the love it takes
to bequeath to the children of the world to come
more than the failures of our own making.
We ask for the love it takes
to care for all the peoples
of Afghanistan and Iraq, or Palestine and Israel
as well as for ourselves.

Give us depth of soul, O God,
to constrain our might,
to resist the temptation of power,
to refuse to attack the attackable,
to undertsand
that vengeance begets violence,
and to bring peace - not war - wherever we go.

For You, O God, have been merciful to us.
For You, O God, have been patient with us.
For You, O God, have been gracious to us.

And so may we be merciful
and patient
and gracious
and trusting
with these others whom you also love.

This we ask through Jesus,
the one without vengeance in his heart.
This we ask forever and ever. Amen!

A Prayer attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi
St. Francis went to speak with the Sultan, rather than fight in the crusades

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen!

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father,
Who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,

and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen!

The Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that any one who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence,
I fly unto thee,
O Virgin of virgins my Mother;
to thee do I come,
before thee I stand,
sinful and sorrowful;
O Mother of they Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in thy clemency hear and answer me.

Blessed Mother,
Queen of Peace,
Mother of God and my mother,
pray for peace!

Amen.

Blessed be God, the Most High!
Blessed be God's motherly care for us!
O God, you are love itself,
penetrate the hearts of all people in this moment.
Let your lavish love wash over us and overwhelm us
and may your infinite mercy burst through us
and pour out to each other.
Send forth your Spirit
from the four winds
to enlighten our minds and hearts
to walk in the way of peace.
We ask this Father,
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God,
forever and ever. Amen.

O sacred heart of Jesus, have mercy on the soul of Saddam Hussein.
O sacred heart of Jesus, have mercy on Osama Bin Laden
O sacred heart of Jesus, have mercy on the Iraqi people!
O sacred heart of Jesus, have mercy on the people of the United States of America!
O Sacred heart of Jesus, have mercy on President George Bush!
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on Ariel Sharon!
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on the Jewish people, your kinsmen!
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on Yasir Arafat!
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on the sons of Ishmael!

Saint Joseph, most just spouse of the Virgin Mary, pray for peace!
Saint Jude, patron of hopeless causes; pray for peace!
Saint Michael the Archangel; protect and defend us form the scourge of war!
All God's angels and all God's saints, pray for us!

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

PEACE and Blessings!
